Our Mission
Real Life Colorado educates, empowers, and connects school aged learners who are non-speaking or limitedly verbal to the resources they need to actualize a “real life” through total immersion in an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) environment.
Our Vision
We envision a future where:
AAC users are seen as a unique culture of communicators.
RLC provides AAC trainings to local public school districts, related service providers/clinics, and parents/caregivers.
Learning Zone Students have access to community opportunities and overcome barriers they face as a result of their verbal speech limitations.
AAC users are transitioned successfully from RLC to their next learning environments, ensuring they continue to receive individualized academic instruction with holistic incorporation of AAC.
We envision a Denver Metropolitan Area where:
AAC immersive environments are available in public education systems.
Families and providers feel empowered to support AAC users.
AAC users have the same educational, vocational, and social opportunities as their non-disabled peers.
A continuum of services are readily available for AAC users.
Local, state, and federal legislation will accurately represent and advocate for AAC users.
Our Values
Real Life Colorado values:
Presumed competence and high expectations for students.
Strong collaboration and partnership with families, school districts, and related service providers.
Meaningful inclusion and acceptance in educational, home, and community settings.
AAC as a unique language which deserves fluent communication partners
Academic programming where professionals are highly trained/proficient in teaching and communicating using AAC.
